About Jo Frances Arts

Hello! I’m Jo

Artist

Jo Frances Arts is run by me, Jo, a multi passionate artist from Surrey, UK, mum of 2 boys, married to my best friend and a dog owner. I love painting peoples pets, landscapes and abstracts (coming soon) from my studio in my garden.  I’m a constant work in progress and I often refer to my style and practice as a contradiction, from the realism of my pet portraits to the bright, vibrant and colourful abstracts. Being an artist means you’re constantly evolving and I’m constantly inspired by the world around me.

My Nan, who was my best friend and also called Frances, taught me to paint in watercolours from a very young age. The first full painting I did with her was one of a Kingfisher (see below of the painting which inspired my logo) when I was 15 years old. I have always drawn and painted as a child, I was an only child and painting has always been an escape for me, taking me off into my own world.

Before embarking on my art journey, I ran a very successful dog walking and small pet boarding company for 10 years, one year I drew all my customers’ pets as a Christmas gift and that’s where the joy from painting peoples pets started. My life has always had art and animals in it, going to Art University, Animal Collage and then opening a Dog Grooming shop in a local village, it is easy to see the love for art and animals has been intertwined into my life from a very early age.

I was always told that the world needed to see my art, but like most artists I’ve suffered with imposter syndrome a lot through my journey. Now I feel the time is right to show my art off to the world. My hope with my paintings, prints and cards give you the same sense of escape and joy.
